We are inviting Green Industry Management Professors and up to three of a school's top students to attend our 5th Annual Green Industry Management Summit. This event is being held on October 27 and 28 at the Rensselaer Conference Center at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy. Your students will certainly GROW from this experience, which will expose them to industry leaders in various segments of the Green Industry throughout New York State. College alumni will be sponsoring school teams--so this is truly a wonderful opportunity to partner with NYSNLA-PlantNYS.

This event is open only to NYSNLA Members who are Green Industry Leaders (owners of nursery or landscape businesses, their top managers and decision-makers). It is always a hands-on, intimate professional experience where attendees will be asked to speak about their businesses, revenue and other aspects of their operations in a collaborative and safe space.

Marty will give an overview on the 4 Pillars that every landscaping company should be focused on to build a successful company. He will introduce you to the way Grunder Landscaping Co. approaches each pillar and walk you through a worksheet to evaluate where your company stands.

It takes a whole team for any company to succeed. From hard-working field crews and salespeople to office administrators and managers, we all play an instrumental role. In this talk, Marty will help you examine your strengths and weaknesses as a team player and identify changes you can make to get the most, professionally and personally, out of your workday. Because when you’re part of a great team, you have more than a job—you have a purpose.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m. - Session 3: Soft Skills: The Interpersonal Skills Everyone Should Have to Be Successful in Life and Business
Grunder Landscaping has focused on teaching their team members work skills for years, but they recently added soft-skills workshops to their training program. They've found that a little bit of training helps their team to work more cohesively and communicate better with clients. In this session, Marty will teach the soft skills that he teaches his own team and will give you the tools to lay out your own soft skills workshop for your team.
2:00 – 2:15 p.m. - Break
2:15 – 3:15 p.m. - Session 4: Workshop: Putting Your Skills into Action
In this session, Marty will facilitate discussions and role playing to practice using soft skills when interacting with your teammates, clients, suppliers, and more. You'll work through real-life scenarios and learn ways to communicate more effectively and work better as a team.
3:15 – 3:30 p.m. - Break
3:30 – 4:30 p.m. - Session 5: Group Discussions: Putting it All Together
Attendees will break into small groups for guided discussions facilitated by New York State Nursery & Landscape Association members and Marty. We'll talk about takeaways from today's event and next steps from the event.
